Yahoo Fantasy Basketball H2H 9-Cat 12 Team League
Finalized a self-deprecating joke of a team name, with Tatum having a stinker in the 2024 Olympics but still coming out of it with a gold medal on the backs of the other elites. Nevertheless, I think the name has character and displays that my team is one that is comfortable at laughing at ourselves, not too serious.
Week 1 Final Score: 3 - 6

So, I think I lost in every category that I set the team up for before the draft. The goal of building a team around JT was FT%, Pts, Reb, Stl, and Blk. Still, being the first week of the season and not having a full week, it might not be a full representation of how the team is set up according to my plans. But many stats were real close. 30 points off, 32 assists off (maybe this one is not close), 4 steals off, 2 blocks off. This week could have been a very different week if I picked up better waiver wires.

Again, just an opening week, trying not to make too much out of it. But I do have to pick up key waivers quickly and potential breakout stars. Watching a Pacers’ game, I feel like Mathurin is someone to look out for in the future. The current trend of the NBA is the mold of LeBron. Big, handles, shooting. Basically, an all-rounder who happens to be big. The next level taken by Banchero (even if the season is young) seems to be the perfect example, with Tatum somewhere along the lines of that mold. Plus, looking at Ben Simmons, I think breakout stars are dogs (so to speak) and Banchero and Mathurin seems to be so.

Notable Players:
- Jayson Tatum: A+. Damn, he was on something this week. The finals MVP snub, being an Olympic Benchwarmer, something must have gotten under his skin. It felt like whenever he took 3s last season, I had expectations that it is not going in. The opening night against New York, everything went in. Tatum for 2025 MVP!
- Chet Holmgren: A-. Not sure what I expected of him when I selected him 2nd but if he is gonna produce as such for the season, sign me up! So far, so good!
- Derrick White: A. Another Celtic who was bombing it from 3 like nobody’s business. Not to get too carried away but I feel like he could potentially be a significant sleeper of the draft. Cant ask for better from him.
Oopsies of the Week
- Moses Moody: F. Picked up him on the last day to hopefully get some stats out of him and got nothing. This is the waiver pick-up that could have given me a victory in the week.
- Kel’el Ware: F. Picked for potential, along with Sharpe, Whitmore, and Taylor Hendricks. While Hendricks was pretty good,
Albas
- Gary Trent Jr.: C-. Maybe he needs time to gel with the new team but seems to have declined to a waiver level player. Might use again.
- Harrison Barnes: B-. Not a bad output considering he would not see much of the ball. Will definitely use again.
- Cam Whitmore: C-. Based on all of the things I said about the LeBron build mold, Whitmore is someone with athleticism. But there is a lot of young players on the team and might be hard for him to get regular minutes unless there is an injury.
Final Thought of the Week
- Reed Shepherd: Thought that he would be good at the get go but looking at his performance throughout the week, he might have a similar problem with Whitmore as the Rockets are stacked with youth.
- De’Andre Hunter: Wanted to grab him feeling that there will be a reshuffling of roster from the departure of Dejounte Murray. Someone snagged him before I did but he was ruled out and I was able to get him. Nice~
- Overall, nice to get back into the swing of things in terms of just playing the fantasy league. Honestly can't believe that this is already my fifth year playing this.
